Choosing a Videographer
Professional videography preserves life's most precious
moments. But how do you find the right videographer?

You could ask a friend to do it but can they deliver the
video your special day deserves or will you be left with a
shaky image and poor sound quality?

Begin selecting your videographer right away. Many are
booked far in advance - as much as a year or more.

Start by calling local videographers and asking several
key questions:

  • Are you available on my wedding date?

  • How long have you been in video production?

Three years or more should be okay.

  • Do you offer packages or do you charge by the
    hour?

  • Are you the person who will shoot my wedding or
    will someone else?

  • What kind of equipment do you use?

If it's not professional, broadcast quality equipment you're
not likely to be happy with the result.
Also, how do they sound? Do they seem
inconvenienced by your call or are they excited
about possibly shooting your wedding?

Ask for an appointment to see some of their work.
While watching, pay careful attention to image and
sound quality. Can you hear the vows clearly? Is the
camera too shaky or the image too dark? Ask
yourself, "Would I be pleased if this were my
wedding video?"

Study their package descriptions and ask questions
about anything that isn't clear to you. What
additional services can they provide? Carefully read
the contract and make sure all the terms are spelled
out. Does it seem fair to you?

After you've done your homework ask yourself:

  • Will I like having these people around me
    constantly on my wedding day?

  • Am I confident they will create a one-of-a-kind
video that my husband and I will treasure for
    the rest of our lives?

When the answer to both questions is "Yes," you've
found your videographer.
